Do you have a budget?

I’m not going to lie.  Even the word budget makes me want to pull the covers over my head and hide.  I hate talking about money and the whole thing stresses me out. My parents were not only terrible at budgeting, but they also didn’t help us learn about it.  Yes, I’m blaming this on my parents; God rest their souls. I really hope that you are getting my attempt at humor here or I am going to get some pretty aggressive comments!  No, it’s not my parents fault. They did their best and were wonderful parents. I blame myself. I have always had a little bit of “magical thinking”. You know…it’s all going to be okay, right?

Well, well…now that I have two kids who are looking at college in the next couple years and thinking about our future, my husband and I have met with a financial planner. It has been helpful to actual write down what we want our lives to look like 10, 20 or even 40 years (God willing) down the line.  I can’t say that I like talking about money or that I don’t worry about it more than I used to, but going to an expert to get help and working with my husband feels responsible and helps us plan.

Do you budget? Have you gone to a financial planner?
